OVERLAND EXPEDITIONS

Marcus Allender

Marcus discovered his love for overland travel early, drawn from trips to Africa with his parents in their Land Rover; this passion for adventure eventually led him to plan and manage some of the most ambitious cross-continent driving expeditions of recent years.

In 2019 Marcus planned and managed The Last Overland, a 30,000 kilometre, 115-day celebration of the legendary 1955 Oxford & Cambridge Far Eastern Expedition. The modern Singapore to London expedition battled extreme weather, remote borders and treacherous roads across Asia and Europe, with Marcus coordinating the team, logistics, and film crew every step of the way.

More recently, Marcus managed Lobito Bound, an epic coast-to-coast journey from Tanzania to Angola. The team crossed the heart of Africa, overcoming security challenges, bureaucratic hurdles and mechanical setbacks while producing an extraordinary film centred on history and future of critical minerals from the mines of Congo and Zambia.

On The Last Overland and Lobito Bound – both major international documentaries – Marcus managed the complex integration of expedition and filming needs in often hostile and unpredictable environments.

Before his expedition career, Marcus spent nearly a decade living in Myanmar, where he built and ran the pioneering travel platform Go-Myanmar.com, helping open up one of the world’s most isolated countries to international visitors.

A lifelong car enthusiast, Marcus’s experience has a particular focus on navigation in remote areas, border crossings, and the unique challenges of operating in little-visited regions. His work has been featured widely in the media, including interviews with BBC Travel and CNN Travel.

As Expedition Manager, Marcus brings together a unique blend of logistical expertise, storytelling vision and unshakeable passion for the open road. To find out more please get in touch- our details can be found on our Contact Us page.
