Greg Woodward
Greg began photographing at the age of 14, armed with a beaten ‘Canon AE-1’ and a bag full of out of date black and white film. His interest in the countryside paired with his love of cycling prompted him to begin photographing anywhere and everywhere his bike could take him. With his photographic interest being nurtured, Greg decided to study photography at school, which later led him to pursue a degree in photography at the University of Falmouth.
Whilst at University, Greg began a whole new chapter of his practice where he began taking on commissions across Cornwall. In his new environment, feeling inspired, Greg began to experiment shooting landscapes with large format film cameras. Nurtured by his tutors, Greg left University with a ‘Bachelor of Arts’ degree with First Class Honors in Photography. During his studies in Cornwall Greg still managed to find time to travel by taking on positions crewing on ships in the Caribbean, photographing in Havana and studying in New York.
After graduating, Greg left the beautiful Cornish landscape and moved to London to pursue his photography career further in the capital. Whilst working in the city Greg maintained that a priority in his practice would be to fulfill his travel and adventure desires foremost.
Three years on he boasts a high profile client list shooting lifestyle, adventure and outdoor photography across the globe. His photography has taken him to over thirty countries, across four continents (from the Arctic Circle to the Sahara desert) and everywhere in between.
Greg is publishing his first photo book ‘1923’, a photographic journal that retraces the journey taken by the first Europeans to ascend North Africa’s highest peak, Jbel Toubkal. Greg’s expedition, which took place ninety years on from the original expedition, allowed for him and his teammate to only photograph using cameras available in 1923.
