David Atherton

David Atherton is a food writer, influencer, podcaster and expedition medic, best known for winning The Great British Bake Off in 2019.

As a life long foodie, his travel, whether for work or leisure, has seen him embed himself within a food culture and it is this experience and passion he loves to share with others.

David has worked across Africa and SE Asia as a global health adviser in the international development sector for over a decade. He studied for a post-graduate qualification in expedition and wilderness medicine and loves to travel whenever he can.

David loves exploring food cultures and especially the nutritional benefits of global cuisine. He writes a fortnightly food column for The Guardian titled Fit Food. His first book, My First Cookbook, a healthy cookbook for children was published with Walker Books in 2020. His second book, Good to Eat, a healthy cookbook for adults is to be published in 2021 with Hodder and Stoughton. Altogether David has written five cookbooks, all of which are centred around healthy eating and draw inspiration from his travels abroad
